Private Addiction Care was founded by someone who knows both sides: addiction and the road out of it. This is Gijs's story.
Why I do this
There was a time when I completely lost myself. A period during which I tried in vain to solve all my problems on my own. The peace I sought, I thought I found in drugs. Until it started to break me: I couldn't stop anymore, and no matter what I tried, it didn't seem to work. My family watched helplessly. They wanted to help, but didn't know how.
Only when they set clear boundaries did anything happen. Space was created to truly accept help. For the first time, I could see what I was doing and what was needed.

After my admission to an addiction clinic, I realised that recovery doesn't happen by itself and that professional guidance makes a big difference. Driven by this experience, I developed myself into a healthcare professional. I learned the ins and outs of addiction care, delved into counselling methods, and discovered how important it is to actively involve loved ones in the process. That combination of personal experience and professional knowledge became my strength: I not only understand what someone is going through, but I also know how to offer effective support.
Today, at Private Addiction Care, I help others to make that first step possible. For me, recovery from addiction is not an individual path, but a joint process. It requires trust, patience, and the willingness to find each other again. That is what drives me every day: helping families regain direction together, step by step, with lasting change as the goal.
