Interventions

When talking alone is no longer enough.

You see someone you love changing, and nothing seems to help. A well-prepared intervention brings about change. Consultation is possible today, even anonymously.

Do you recognise this?

You've already tried so much

What you see, your surroundings often don't see yet. And everything you have done so far has been a form of love.

You have spokenAnd he changed something for a moment, but never for long.
You have waitedAt the right moment, which never came.
You had hopedThat it would get better on its own.
You have set boundariesAnd then moved them again.
Before you call

What an intervention is not for us

Almost everyone who calls has the same doubts. Am I doing this behind his back? Aren't we ambushing him? And what if he says no? That's why this is first.

  • No robberyWe choose the moment, tone, and format together with you. Even if an element of surprise helps, it is carefully prepared and never humiliating.
  • No judgment circleYour loved one is presented with a choice with respect, not demanded. No one speaks to them about what they are doing wrong.
  • No betrayalYou're not doing this *to* him. It's the first time you're not carrying it alone.
  • Nothing or everythingA 'no' isn't an endpoint either: something has been set in motion. And you are there for support, whatever happens.
Step by step

What you can do now

What you can still do this evening

You don't need to solve anything tonight. If you do want to say something, feel free to use this sentence literally. He asks nothing, and he does open something.

I love you. I see that things aren't going well, and I don't want to pretend they are any longer. You don't need to say anything now.

What tomorrow can

You call or app. We'll listen, think along about what's sensible and whether an intervention is appropriate. You're not tied to anything.

What we'll take over next

We carefully prepare the intervention with you and guide the conversation. If your loved one says yes, the next step is already in place: admission is often arranged within 48 hours to a week. You won't have to arrange anything else, and as a family, you will be guided, well beyond the intervention.

Together we take the first step.

You don't need to know how. That's what we're here for.

Our approach

Two methods, chosen to suit

Our approach is not one-size-fits-all. We believe that every family, every person, and every dynamic is unique. That's why we carefully calibrate: when do we invite, and when do we surprise? What best suits this particular situation?

ARISE: The Invitation to Connection

  • If there's still any possibility of conversation.
  • Transparent, your loved one is on board from the start
Read how this works

We open the door with open communication. In a programme with ARISE, we personally invite the person with an addiction to become involved in the process at an early stage. Together with their loved ones, we guide them through a carefully constructed journey where safety, recognition, and love form the foundation for real change. This model is transparent and not an ambush, but an invitation to build a secure future together.

Johnson: loving surprise as a breakthrough

  • To fit when conversations get stuck
  • Powerful impetus despite continued denial
Read how this works

In other instances, an unexpected confrontation is precisely what's needed. The Johnson method is less subtle, but it offers a powerful boost. By setting boundaries in a loving yet clear manner and confronting directly, we break down the wall of denial. It is precisely that surprise which can drastically break the spiral of stagnation or denial and suddenly set someone in motion.

Why these methods really work

Both interventions share one core principle: the person with an addiction is placed in a position of respecting a choice, not being demanded. In doing so, we do not lose sight of the support of loved ones: their recovery is just as important, and they are strengthened and guided from the beginning until well after the intervention.

This is how it went for others

★★★★★

"An intervention is an emotional and significant event, where it is sometimes difficult to find the right words. Thanks to their support and guidance, it has become a pleasant and valuable conversation."

★★★★★

"Gijs very professionally and meticulously prepared the intervention with us. It's good that Gijs is there for the loved ones, but as an expert by experience, he also understands the addict."

Parents, via Google
★★★★★

"After our first conversation with Gijs, action was taken the very same week. From an intervention, clinic, and family counselling. Thankfully, we took this step, otherwise, we wouldn't have gotten this far."

Frequently asked questions about interventions

Mijn naaste wil geen hulp. Wat kan ik doen?

This happens very often. With a professional intervention via the ARISE or Johnson method, we help families to move a stuck situation forward in a respectful way. And even without intervention, you as a loved one can receive guidance yourself.

How long does the preparation take?

The initial conversation can take place today. An intake usually follows within 1 to 2 days; after that, we will carefully prepare the conversation with you. How long that takes depends on the situation, but you will know exactly where you stand after the intake.

What happens after a successful intervention?

Then the next step is already ready. That's our strength: the line to treatment is arranged in advance, so a 'yes' doesn't mean waiting. You are guided like family and aftercare is always part of the plan.

What does an intervention cost?

The costs depend on the route. In the initial free, no-obligation consultation, you'll find out exactly what to expect, with no surprises later on.
